Phone and I-Pad mapping info

We know that what people really want is to be able to track their dog on their phone when out walking or when looking for it if lost. The Retrieva collar has been designed to do just that.

There are four ways in which you can see or track the location of your dog.

1. Live phone tracking on ViewRanger mapping software. This can be used showing the dog live on satellite or detailed topographical mapping. (Now available on I-Phone, Android and Symbian phones not yet on Blackberry’s).

Retrieva and ViewRanger have worked closely to adapt their award winning mapping software to work with the collar.

What it does:

  • It can show off-road detail of woods, paths, streams and contour lines.
  • It will show you where your dog is, updated every few seconds.
  • The dog’s location can be seen on either satellite or topographical mapping.
  • Shows a snail trail plotted showing last few points.
  • It can show your location relative to the dog so you know which way to walk to find it.

Visit www.viewranger.com for more information on the mapping software.

2. Google maps for smart phones.
If you have a web-enabled phone you can request the dog's location be sent to your mobile phone as a Google map link. Simply click on the link and your phone will download a map with the location of your dog.

This will also initiate the phones locator system (if GPS enabled) and will plot your location relative to that of your dog.

3. By Text message with decimal latitude and longitude.
If you do not have a phone with internet access then you can still request a location by text message. The data can then be input into any mapping solution, including Google maps and other navigation systems. This information also includes speed and direction of travel.

4. Apple I-Pad.
Your I-Pad will enable you to do all of the above, but the increased screen size also makes accessing the web-based mapping panel a viable tracking solution. The panel will show live tracking on satellite mapping and allow you to change the operating mode of the collar, as well as monitor the dog’s whereabouts. I-Pad’s are practical, portable and ideal for managing dogs that might be free to roam on a farm or large area of land.
